Introducing Manager Ashley Rose

 

New years always bring changes, and the Library is starting a new chapter this year. When manager Matt Shaw (aka "Librarian M") retired the end of 2023, we prepared to welcome our new manager Ashley Rose. Of course, the Library's Furry Ambassadors asked her the tough questions. Read on to get to know our new leader better.

Furry Ambassadors: What do you like to do when you're not at work?

Ashley: I love being at home with my husband (Bear), my rescue dogs (Luna and Nisa), and my rescue cats (Rosie and Rosco). They each bring me so much joy and I love spending time with them! I also love traveling to explore new places and visiting my family in Arizona! 

What's your favorite imaginary animal?
Hippogriff! Buckbeak is my favorite "animal" character in the Harry Potter series! 

What's your favorite pizza topping?
Pepperoni, extra cheese.

Favorite ice cream flavor?
Peppermint Bark

Favorite genre to read?
Mystery/Horror, I like a good crime story, even better if there's an unexplained monster involved.

How did you decide to become a librarian? 
Once upon a time I was a Language Arts teacher that taught my students how to love reading! In doing so, I also taught myself how to love reading even more and from there I had a desire to become a librarian. But wait there's more! My first real job was as a Library Assistant at the Montgomery County Public Library during the summers while I was in school getting my teaching degree. From that experience, I knew the secret of how much fun being a librarian could be! 

What's your favorite dinosaur? 
Brachiosaurus, it's been my favorite since "The Land Before Time" movies and will forever be my favorite because they don't eat meat and were peaceful giants! 

If you could "travel" into any book, what would it be and why? 
"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll simply because I would like to have nonsensical adventures in Wonderland and also meet the Cheshire Cat! 

Favorite superhero?
Scarlet Witch - Wanda Maximoff

You can have one superpower - what do you pick?
Flight, so I can travel anywhere for free!

Favorite color?
PINK!

Snacks: Sweet or Salty?

Salty! Popcorn, extra salt and butter!

Big Updates!

Extra, Extra, Read All About It!
Big things coming to the Library in March!

STORYTIME returns March 3rd!

Preschoolers (and their grown-ups!) are invited to join us for Storytime with Ms. Haley on Thursdays at 10am.

As you can see, Ms. Haley and our furry ambassadors are very excited, and have been practicing to be ready for the big day. (Notice our bright and cheerful new carpet circles? What fun seats for our storytime listeners!)

The BOOK CLUBS are back!

BOOK BITES, our "Un-Book" Club, will resume Tuesday, March 8th at 2pm.

Refreshments will not be served, and we'll also be using the carpet circles to help us space out (and they're just so cute - who doesn't love a pop of color, especially in the spring?)

BOOK BREAK, our traditional club, returns Tuesday, March 15th at 2pm.

We will be discussing Code Name: Lise (Larry Loftis), which was the scheduled read for March 2020, right when everything closed down. 

Updates to the reading list/selections, and discussion of how the club will go forward will also occur, as Ms. Harriet has retired as Book Break leader.

Holiday Hours

Our furry ambassadors are quite excited about the holiday season, and having a little too much fun playing with the Library's decorations:

They want to make sure everyone knows the Library's holiday hours too, so you can make sure you've got all the books and movies you may need! Here's our Christmas and New Year's closings: 

Welcome Back!

If you've driven by the Library the last week or so, you  may have noticed more cars in the parking lot. And if you've called us, you'll have heard the new telephone greeting confirming your guess:

The Library doors have reopened.

As with so many things these days, there have been many changes - your trip to the Library won't look quite the same as it did "before," but the Powers That Be have put a great deal of care and attention into how to expand our services and still keep library visitors and staff as safe as possible.

Here's what you should know, with a little help from our furry ambassadors:

When you come into the Library lobby, the greeter will let you in and tell you what you need to know about visiting the Library. This is also where you can update your card information, register for a new card, or pick-up your card if you registered virtually while the doors were closed.

Wearing your mask helps keep everyone safe and healthy! Please make sure your mask covers your mouth and nose the entire time you are in the Library.
If you cannot wear a mask, we will do our best to serve you outside (no contact pick-up will still be available for your convenience/preference).

Please wait in the lobby until the greeter lets you in. This helps us keep things running smoothly and safely for everyone.

When the greeter lets you in, they will give you a sticker with your "exit time," so you know when your daily hour is up. Please keep an eye on the time, so others can have a chance to use the Library too.

This is new for all of us: please be kind to other Library visitors and Library staff, respect everyone's personal space (social distancing is our friend!), and remember that we're all adjusting.
We are doing our best to keep you safe and healthy, and ask that you join us in that process.

Book Break Schedule Fall 2014

As summer winds to a close, and everyone starts preparing for the return of school and cooler weather, an exciting thing has occurred at the Library! The Fall 2014 Book Break Reading Schedule has been posted!

It's that time of year again! Registration began yesterday for Summer Reading 2014! You can feel the excitement in the air (or possibly that's the kids' happiness that school is almost out).
